I have worked in the Information Technology industry since 1996 when I graduated the Marine Corps Computer Sciences School in Quantico, Virginia. I rose to the rank of Sergeant in the Corps and was the senior enlisted IT person in my unit for the last year that I was on duty. Four junior Marines reported to me during that time.
My motto in the Corps was: "We have done so much with so little for so long, that we are now qualified to do anything with nothing forever." That translates into "I know how to get things done effectively, efficiently, and financially conservative."
Since the Corps, I have worked a wide spectrum of civilian job types from Help Desk to Server & Network Administration. My present title is Senior Network Engineer and I co-manage a mid-sized national network for a billion-dollar-per-year salt mining company.
In addition to professional services, I have served as a volunteer Network Engineer, Website Designer/Administrator, and Social Media Manager for the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, the Red River & Gulf Railroad, and the Southern Forest Heritage Museum.
In 2021, I began providing services to a church as a favor to an old friend. I have found the experience to be quite enjoyable and I'm open to future opportunities working with churches or small businesses that have limited budgets.

I began my IT career at the
Helpdesk. I learned the applications, the common problems, and their
solutions. From there, I began writing instructions to help other users
understand the applications, how to use them, and how to combat those
problems without having to call for assistance. I wrote instructions for
all of the computer applications used at a major international law firm
in downtown Houston for 12 years. One other technical writer and I
supported all of the lawyers and staff by writing short tips, one-page
quick reference cards, all-encompassing online help projects and
manuals, as well as many other written documents that were requested. In
addition, we proofread and edited each other’s work on a daily basis and
regularly edited many other documents for IT personnel (including the
CIO) and other departments. |
